Bird Watching in the UK

If you want your kids to be a part of the process it is very easy to make your birdhouse very simple. It is quite possible to use four or five pieces of wood and construct one with very little in the way of tools. Then there is the posture of a bird. Believe it or not, birds perch differently. For example, a Flycatcher perches vertically (straight up and down) when on a branch while a Vireo perches horizontally (almost lying down) when on the same branch.

Bird cages are the type of thing that "you don't go cheap twice". If you go cheap once, you'll be sure to never do that again! Here is a feature that is often overlooked: bird-proof door locks.

The #1 thing to watch for is a cage that is sturdy, but can be broken down in a matter of 2 minutes or less, without the need for any tools. All of the top brand name bird cages have this feature.

You may find that perhaps only a few species actually inhabit that particular area. With a little preparation, you will be able to more readily identify bird species from each other. Keep a list of successfully viewed species ¨C we¡¯ll call this tip number two and a half.

Bird Watching in the UK

James hasn¡¯t been back to London in over thirty years. He moved to the United States after graduating with a degree in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and hasn¡¯t looked back.

Working in aeronautics, he loved to watch the planes being developed as well as the birds that frequented the nearby airport. After going with a group of friends¡¯ bird watching, the engineer decided to turn this into a hobby. He joined a club and went on trips across the country seeing a variety of species. James had to fly to London to witness the marriage of Peter, the youngest of the siblings. Since there were places in the United Kingdom that had some birds not found in America, he decided not to pass up the chance and also do some watching for a few days.

A few days before leaving for the UK, he made a reservation at the Wild Rye nature reserve. Some examples of the species seen are the Shoveler and the Sanderling during the winter. The Little Tern and the Mediterranean Gull are also known to drop by in different times of the year.

And here's why; when you decide to squeeze a cage into a specific place in your house this almost always takes away from the well-being of your bird!

The materials needed to make your own hummingbird feeder are clear prescription vials with a fitted cap, a few feet of thin wire or heavy thread and transparent tape or scotch tape. Think about the ability of your family to care for a pet and then only choose a bird that you could really care for and enjoy.

Though authentic antique cages are pleasing to the eye, they are not the best home for your bird. Many antique bird cages are treated with chemicals or paints that can be toxic to your bird.

If you have an inexpensive pair of binoculars you are not getting the most out of your viewing. Today¡¯s technologies come at a price and they provide crucial benefits in wildlife viewing.

There are hotels nearby for tourists to stay for a few days as well as tours for those who want to look around the place. Visitors are given a guide book upon entering the reserve and are allowed to take pictures. Cornwall which is located on the south west side of England is another good place to visit. People there have seen species such as the Sandpiper, the Yellow Wagtails, the Dotterel and the Spotted Crake.

James visited both places and was able to check most of the birds on the list. Since he took a camera, it was possible to take a few photos so the information and the pictures could be uploaded into the computer.

There were other places to see exotic birds in the UK. It is a good thing the home where James grew up was in the countryside so there was time to spend time with the family and watch some birds at the same time.

James had fun at the wedding and doing some bird watching. Since there were other places to visit, he planned to return soon and check out the other nature reserves that featured other species of birds. Okay, most people are not informed enough to make a good decision when buying a bird cage. That's really not good, because if you're buying a good quality cage it isn't going to be cheap, and if you are paying a decent amount of money, you need to get the best product you can get for that money!

What is the quality level of the materials used in the cage you are considering? If you are a new bird watcher, we urge you to joing a bird watching forum. When buying online, however, be sure to weigh in the shipping costs to determine if you are truly saving over buying local.

Bar spacing is also important because inappropriate bar spacing can result in injury to your bird. Avoid cages with fancy scroll work or intricate designs, and beware of doors, latches and other cage parts that could trap your bird.

After you have brought your bird bath home, find a place to set up the bath well within sight of your outdoor and indoor spaces.
